Who Is Jesse Sutherland:
I am originally from Burnsville, Minnesota, but currently I am a fourth-year Senior at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire studying Graphic Design and Advertising as a double major. I will be graduating in May 2006 and am hoping to work in an advertising agency as a Graphic Designer in the future.
Why Do You Like Graphic Design?
I've been doing design since I was a kid. My friend and I started a business where we made greeting cards and tried to sell them to neighbors. Then, in junior high, my friends and I would get together and make up board games which needed designing. I got to use my Dad's copy of Quark X Press on our families' Macintosh. In high school I took a graphics class where we learned the essentials of Photoshop, and during my senior year I took a class at the Dakota County Technical College where we learned Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, and a myriad of other helpful things about design. It was also at that time that I decided to study Graphic Design in college. I love Graphic Design because it the perfect usable art. It creates something tangible, but also useful and marketable.
My Hobbies & Interests:
I am an avid music listener, some of my favorite bands include Relient K, Switchfoot, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, and Caedmon's Call, just to name a few. You might see me around campus listening to them on my new iPod. I used to do a radio show with a friend on the college radio station, WSRi. I am involved with the a Christian group on campus named The Navigators, where I participate in a weekly Bible Study, and large group meeting time. Ultimate Frisbee is my sport of choice, though in Winter it is difficult to play, so Broomball is also a contender. When I'm bored I typically pick up my acoustic Washburn guitar and absentmindedly strum. During the summer you might find me hiking a trail, on top of a mountain, or in my favorite outdoors store: REI Outfitters . Much of my free time is taken designing things and working on the various other projects that you'll see on this site.
Where I Work:
I'm an Assistant Administrator at the Tech Lab on campus which serves the College of Education and Human Sciences, we basically help Education majors out with projects like making movies, scanning, and using digital cameras. My fancy title means very little, but it's pretty much the perfect job for me while I'm in school.
